Framed Plein Air Collage: Original Fine Art, Niagara River Sky and Ellicott Creek Trees

DESCRIPTION

These are two plein air paintings I made as color match illusions. They are framed together because I saw a relationship between the two.

DEPICTION:

They were both made in early autumn at Western NY parks. The sky was over the Niagara River at Beaver Island Park, Grand Island, NY (see the video!). The trees were a quiet bunch of sweet trees at Ellicott Creek Park, about a twenty minute drive from Beaver Island (Ellicott Creek Video).

DETAILS:

The frame is 6 3/4 x 4 1/2 inches, and the opening for the artwork is 3 x 2 inches.

PLEIN AIR ILLUSIONS:

The goal of my illusions is to block out a portion of the landscape and then paint what's missing. This is entirely challenging because the light, wind, and other elements can shift at any time; this can ruin the illusion. Since I battle the elements, I must paint quickly with speed, accuracy, and spot-on color matching.

These paintings are framed together, with the sky above the trees. It's in a stand-alone frame, which means it's easy to prop anywhere.

My favorite parts of these paintings: I love the bit of purple in the clouds for the sky painting. And for the tree painting, I love the contrast of the dark foliage shadows against the lighter greens.

I'm an avid social media content creator, and I post color matches often. I had one of the best autumns of my life in 2022 because the weather was perfect to do many color match illusions like these.
