Niagara River Framed Original Plein-Air Style Painting

DESCRIPTION

This painting is an authentic representation of the Niagara River, as viewed from a particular spot in Lewiston, NY. I discovered the location during the summer of 2023 . Later on, during winter, I painted the scene from home. I used my photos, memory, and my color matches of the Niagara River to inspire the painting.

Despite working indoors, I opted for a plein air approach, using only one brush and creating more relaxed brushstrokes than my usual style. This loose style is the style I use when creating color match illusions.

NIAGARA RIVER:

The Niagara River is the drainage outlet for the four upper Great Lakes (Superior, Michigan, Huron, and Erie), having an aggregate basin area of some 260,000 square miles. (Source: Britannica.) Flowing in a northerly direction from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario, the Niagara constitutes part of the boundary between the United States and Canada, separating New York state from the province of Ontario. About halfway along the river’s course lies Niagara Falls, one of the major scenic spectacles of the continent.
