Niagara Falls Overlook: Framed Plein Air Color Match Illusion

DESCRIPTION

This is a framed plein air illusion of the Niagara Falls Overlook. I painted this on site. I blocked out a portion of the landscape and painted everything that was missing. I posted the illusion on social media (see the full video here) on June 13th, 2023.

DETAILS:

Oil paint and glossy varnish over a triple layer of gesso.
Painting itself is nearly 2x3 inches.
Golden-colored tabletop fame is 4.75 x 3.75 inches.
Initialed on painting. Signed on back.
Certificate of authenticity included.

DEPICTION:
It was just before the start of summer when I painted this. I tried to capture the wood line, a part of the sky, and the golden-colored grasses. I love the lively quick brush strokes with which I painted the wood line. Quickness is important for my illusions because the light changes quickly.

NIAGARA FALLS OVERLOOK:

This site is just outside of Niagara Falls State Park entrance. I’m facing the park entrance from where I stand. It’s near the Old Stone Chimney of Fort du Portage, which was a satellite fort of Fort Niagara.

If you look at the bigger picture that surrounds the painting, you can see the Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino among other Niagara Falls buildings.
