Magnet or Easel Display Plein Air Painting: Erie Canal in Winter

DESCRIPTION

This is a miniature plein air magnet of the Erie Canal, although it can also be displayed on the included easel. I painted it on site at the Erie Canal. The video was posted on my social media channels on February 1st, 2023. View the video here.

It was very cold that day, and I had to work quickly because I had to wear gloves and my hands were clumsy from the cold weather. The light on the water was absolutely gorgeous.

ERIE CANAL:

The Erie Canal is a 363-mile waterway that connects the Great Lakes with the Atlantic Ocean via the Hudson River in upstate New York. (Source: History Channel.) The channel was considered an engineering marvel when it first opened in 1825.

The Eire Canal is known as the Gateway to the West because it provided a direct water route from New York City to the Midwest, triggering large-scale commercial and agricultural development—as well as immigration—to the sparsely populated frontiers of western New York, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan and points farther west. The canal transformed New York City into the young nation’s economic powerhouse, and in 2000 the U.S. Congress designated the Erie Canal a National Heritage Corridor.
