“Cattaraugus Creek" is plein air illusion created in springtime in Gowanda, NY. The painting was made to blend in with creek and bank, only possible through my meticulous color matching skills. THE PROCESS:
I took a long day trip out to Gowanda to explore a part of Cattaraugus Creek that I have never been to before. When possible, I love to journey to new places because it is more challenging to paint a place I haven’t seen before. The light was changing rapidly, as common for spring, which made it essential for me to paint quickly and efficiently, capturing every detail, down to the bubbling waves of the water.

CATTARAUGUS CREEK

Cattaraugus Creek, nestled in the picturesque landscapes of western New York, meanders through verdant forests and rugged terrain before flowing into Lake Erie. Spanning over 68 miles, this iconic waterway holds cultural significance for the Seneca Nation of Indians, who have historically relied on its waters. Beyond its cultural importance, Cattaraugus Creek serves as a tranquil retreat for nature enthusiasts, offering serene hiking trails, scenic vistas, and abundant wildlife. Its clear waters and rocky shores provide a peaceful escape into the heart of New York's captivating wilderness, inviting exploration and contemplation amid its natural splendor.
