DESCRIPTION

Introducing "Pioneers' Sunrise at Chimney Rock" – an enchanting oil painting on the reverse side of the Nebraska quarter. This tribute to early pioneers and their reliance on Chimney Rock as a guide along the Oregon Trail is a remarkable masterpiece. The painting's precision is extraordinary, featuring an ox-drawn wagon with pioneers in intricate detail, showcasing their determination.

A vibrant sunrise graces the coin's sky, symbolizing the optimism that fueled these adventurers, with the year 1867 subtly raised beneath the paint to commemorate Nebraska's statehood. Meticulously crafted with a tiny brush, the portrayal of pioneers on this coin, one smaller than a grain of rice (shown in one of the images), captures their resilience. "Pioneers' Chimney Rock Sunrise" is not just art; it's a tribute to the enduring spirit of exploration and human will.

CHIMNEY ROCK:

Chimney Rock National Historic Site, spire-like sandstone rock formation in western Nebraska, U.S., that was a major landmark along the Oregon Trail. (Source: Britannica.) First used as a landmark by fur traders in the early 19th century, it was a significant milestone on the Oregon Trail; to early westbound travelers, it meant they were near the end of the Great Plains and the beginning of the Rocky Mountains. The presence of a reliable water supply there made it a popular camping spot for the pioneers. The visitors’ center has exhibits on westward migration. Chimney Rock was designated a national historic site in 1956.
