Custom-framed Micro Painting on Quarter: Alaskan Grizzly Catching Salmon

$169.00
DESCRIPTION

This is a framed oil painted quarter of an Alaskan grizzly bear catching a salmon in rushing rapids. The North Star is visible against a warm blue sky. In the background, a coniferous tree as well as a hill in shades of green, yellow, and brown.

The painting has a glossy finish and is set in a velvet-lined wooden frame. I built the entire frame and lining myself. The wood is a warm brown with a semi-gloss varnish. Signed on back. It is snugly set in the display (like a coin in a coin book) so that it won’t fall out and get lost.

GRIZZLY BEARS:

The grizzly bear is a massive animal with humped shoulders and an elevated forehead that contributes to a somewhat concave profile. (Source: Britannica.) The fur is brownish to buff, and the hairs are usually silver- or pale-tipped, giving the grizzled effect for which the bear is named. Grizzlies remain numerous in Alaska and Canada. In the continental United States, however, fewer than 1,500 remain, and they are protected by law.

Grizzly bears feed on salmon from June to September, which is the time of year the salmon swim upstream to spawn. This phenomenon is known as the salmon run.
