FORT NIAGARA, LAKE ONTARIO
Fort Niagara is located on the shores of Lake Ontario, where the Niagara River joins with the lake. This area has gone through many phases since its ancient origins, from supporting Indigenous communities to its later roles in trade and defense. Today, it serves as a destination for recreation and appreciation of the natural landscape. I find it especially meaningful to see the turquoise Niagara River join with the deeper waters of Lake Ontario here. The distinct colors of the two bodies are juxtaposed against one another, and I carefully captured this in the original painting.
