Stormy Gale at Ellicott Creek: Framed Plein Air Color Match Illusion

$269.00
DESCRIPTION

Introducing “Stormy Gale at Ellicott Creek,” an illusion meticulously painted on-site to capture the creek’s natural beauty.  This mesmerizing artwork is a testament to my dedication to replicating reality with precision. It was unveiled on social media on January 9th, 2024 (click here to view).

THE PROCESS:

On a winter’s day with a snowstorm on its way, I set out for the creek with my partner. My hands, feet, and even my paint began to freeze in the chill of the gale. I worked quickly to capture the dark and moody hues of the creek  and surroundings.

The wind knocked my painting down mid-way, and I enlisted my husband to hold my easel while I finished. In my work, I’m dedicated to braving the elements so I can capture the authentic colors of Western New York in my paintings. The resulting painting of Ellicott Creek is a serene, muted, and captivating composition.

DETAILS:
Ready to display.
Oil paint and gloss varnish.
Painting on triple gessoed fine art Bristol board, acid free.
Painting is 2x3 inches.
Black wooden frame with fold-out easel is 4.75 x 3.75 inches.
Certificate of authenticity included.

ELLICOTT CREEK:

Ellicott Creek, a picturesque stream in Western New York, bears the name of Joseph Ellicott, a key agent of the Holland Land Company. In the late 1700s, Ellicott played a pivotal role in opening up Western New York for settlement, particularly through the Big Tree Treaty with the Seneca nation. His meticulous surveying work divided the region into townships and saleable land parcels, shaping its development.

Today, Ellicott Creek remains a natural treasure influenced by the ebb and flow of the nearby Niagara River.  It offers recreational opportunities, such as the Ellicott Creek Bike Path. Ellicott Creek's history and natural influence continue to leave their mark on the region.
