Oil-painted Quarter Necklace: Flying Fox Fruit Bats at Samoa National Park
DESCRIPTION
This necklace features a tiny oil painting of fruit bats, also known as flying foxes, at Samoa National Park.
The bats are upside down, with the mother bat cuddling the young bat protectively. Surrounding them are leaves from the tree they rest in. Behind them, the South Pacific ocean is visible.
FLYING FOXES:
In American Samoa, fruit bats can be seen flying, soaring, feeding, or just hanging in trees. (Source: National Park Service.) They are renowned for being large (with a wing span up to 3 feet wide) and active both day and night. Samoan fruit bat mothers are dedicated parents, and even after the young are capable of flight, the young continue to receive parental care.
DETAILS:
Samoa circulated quarter.
Chain is made of gold-plated iron; is dainty, shiny and sturdy; lobster claw clasp (closes securely; isn’t flimsy).
Bail is gold-plated. Bezel is goldtoned.
Oil paint and glossy resin-based varnish to protect painting.
DIMENSIONS:
1 inch wide (a quarter is nearly 1 inch in diameter).
The bezel makes the height 1 3/8 inches.
The necklace length is 18 inches.
COLOR MATCH QUEEN:
I’m known as the Color Match Queen because I have the skill of mimicking colors realistically with my paint.
