SHARP TOP:

Sharp Top is one of three mountain peaks of the Peaks of Otter. The Peaks of Otter are part of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Thomas Jefferson was so awestruck that he proposed the Otter Peaks may be the tallest mountains in North America. Although they weren’t actually the tallest, it’s amusing to note his fascination. “[Peaks of Otter is] one of the most interesting lines of country in this state,” he wrote. (Source: Akron Beacon Journal.)

Archaeological evidence under Abbott Lake indicates that Native Americans have been visiting the Peaks of Otter for at least 8,000 years for hunting, travel, and rest. European settlers started establishing the area in the mid-1700s.

The primary activity at Peaks of Otter is hiking. Sharp Top is the most famous hike with its spectacular 360° view at the top.
