Arctic Reindeer Ornament: Miniature Oil Painting on Birch Round
DESCRIPTIONThis handcrafted, hand-painted ornament features a tiny oil painting of an arctic reindeer. Against a snow-laden landscape, the reindeer grazes. Bowing its head gracefully, it munches on grass peeping through the snow.
For my process, I began by preparing the birch round as carefully as I prepare my wood-panel paintings. This included sanding and multiple coats of gesso. I used a small brush to carefully paint the reindeer. A glossy varnish was applied to the top. I finished it with a bright gold ornament string.
